What I do

I’m an AI ethicist from Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa | Auckland, New Zealand with years of experience in research, media, and public engagement. I received my doctorate from the University of Cambridge and I’ve been recognised as an AHRC/BBC Radio 3 New Generation Thinker, one of Computing’s 30 Under 30 and as one of the 100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics for my work.

Academic

As a Lecturer at the University of Auckland School of Computer Science and an Associate Fellow at the Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence (LCFI), University of Cambridge, I conduct internationally recognized research on AI ethics, with a specific focus on AI, discrimination, and inequality. I was previously a Research Fellow at the AI Now Institute, a leading AI policy thinktank.

I currently teach AI ethics Masters courses and previously taught on the University of Cambridge’s two Masters programs in AI ethics. I undertook all three of my degrees at Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge, as a Girdler’s Scholar and a Gates Cambridge Scholar.

Public Speaking

I’m an experienced corporate public speaker, delivering impactful and engaging talks on a wide range of AI topics for companies like Google DeepMind, AB InBev, and Bupa.

I’m the author/co-editor of five published or forthcoming books from Oxford University Press, Princeton University Press, and Bloomsbury including Feminist AI and The Good Robot: Why Technology Needs Feminism.

Radio and Podcasts

As an AHRC/BBC Radio 3 New Generation Thinker I’ve created original content for BBC Radio 3 and have appeared as a guest on popular shows like Free Thinking and Front Row. In Aotearoa, I’ve been featured on the New Zealand Herald’s The Front Page and Newstalk ZB.

I previously co-hosted of the award-winning technology podcast The Good Robot Podcast, where we host biweekly conversations about technology, feminism, and social justice. I’ve also been a guest on a wide range of other shows and podcasts, like The Guilty Feminist, The Daily Zeitgeist and The Colin McEnroe Show.
